Rotarians need more people for their Sheppey Santa Saunter

Would you like to take part in Sheppey’s third annual seaside Santa Saunter?
Minster-on-Sea Rotary Club is appealing for volunteers to join members in its colourful stroll through Sheerness town centre on Saturday, December 2.
Spokesman Andy Brown said: “We want as many individuals and families as possible to join us. We even have elf costumes for the little ones to wear alongside the Santas.”
Organisers are hoping more than 100 will join the procession which will end with a giant conga at the clock tower.
The event coincides with the town’s Christmas lights switch-on ceremony, Christmas market and evening lantern parade.
The High Street and Broadway will be closed to traffic all day.
Santas are encouraged to raise more money for the charity of their choice by getting sponsored.
There are discounted entry fees for families and groups. Entry costs £10 for adults or £5 for under-18s and includes a free Santa suit and souvenir medal. All money goes to help Island charities.
Andy admitted: “The first time we staged this event we called it a Santa Run, but most of us ended up walking. We now call it a Santa Saunter so there’s no mistake.”
Pick up a registration form from our office at 44 High Street, Sheerness, or call Andy on 07951 057860 or e-mail him at andrew.b@live.co.uk.
Completed forms should be sent to 63 Buckthorne Road, Minster, ME12 3RD with cheques or cash or handed in on the day at the Old House at Home pub in Sheerness High Street from 2pm. The stroll starts at 3pm.
The parade will be led by members of the Sheppey St John Ambulance band playing Christmas tunes.
