Fundraising for an Island youngster with a childhood cancer is set to resume as a new charity partner is expected to come on board.

Earlier this year, we reported The Oliver Smith Appeal, in aid of the six-year-old from Minster who has neuroblastoma, halted temporarily when Families Against Neuroblastoma, which had been raising money for treatment Oliver may need in Germany if his condition gets worse, stopped trading.

It came after the Charity Commission had opened an investigation into the conduct of the charity’s representatives when dealing with families and the trustees’ lack of governance and financial controls.

Money raised from the Oliver Smith Appeal, currently standing at around £96,500, is safe and could soon be transferred to Neuroblastoma Children’s Cancer Alliance (NCCA), which also supports access to treatment for the disease, if all goes to plan.

Oliver’s mother, Natalie Smith, said fundraising has been on hold because there has been nowhere to put the money but she is hoping to hear from the chief executive of NCCA this week.

If it all goes ahead, a new Just Giving webpage and logos for various collection buckets will need to be made to continue the appeal.

Oliver, who is visually impaired because of his tumours, is also set to undergo scans in hospital this week.

They are to check the tumour in his head is staying stable as well as a full-body check to make sure others have not appeared.
