Police appeal for witnesses after assault on woman in Alma Road, Sheerness

A man has been arrested after a woman was assaulted in broad daylight.
It is reported that at about 2pm on Sunday, June 9 a woman was struck in the face following an altercation in Alma Road, Sheerness.
A number of people are believed to have come to the aid of the victim following the assault, which took place at the junction with Newcomen Road.
PC Helen Cole, of the North Kent Vulnerable Investigation Team, said: "We know a number of bystanders went to help this victim and people may have also heard loud screaming.
"We are particularly keen to also speak to the driver of a silver car, possibly a Renault or Vauxhall, which slowed down after a can of drink was thrown onto the road during the disturbance and who may have important information."
Officers arrested a 35-year-old man, who is believed to be known the victim, on Monday. He has been bailed pending further enquiries until Wednesday, July 10.
Police are now urging witnesses, who may have helped the victim, to contact police.
