AMBULANCE staff found they had an extra passenger last night when a midwife delivered a baby while their vehicle was en route from Sheerness to Gillingham.
The 28-year-old mother from Davie Close, Sheerness, was being taken to Medway hospital, accompanied by the midwife, when the baby was born at Newington, near Sittingbourne.
The ambulance, manned by two female staff, carried on to Medway hospital so that the mother and baby could be seen by medics.
