Blue Peter guarantees Molly’s red-letter day

A young Islander has received a Blue Peter badge after she raised £140 for charity by selling copies of her book.
Molly Stewart, 10, whose mother Carol is the Mayor of Queenborough, was given the award two weeks ago.
In February, the young author wrote a 10-page story called Frogerised, which follows the adventures of a family of witches.
While on holiday, one of the characters turns a boy into a frog, giving the story its title.
It was sold at the Queenborough and Rushenden Gateway, in Rushenden Road, Rushenden, for £1.50, or £2 for a signed copy. Copies are still available.
Mrs Stewart secretly sent the book to the children’s television programme and Molly received her badge through the post.
Mrs Stewart said: “She is part way through her next instalment but she is so busy with work she has not got round to it yet.”
Half of the money raised through the sale of the book went towards the Gateway, while the other half went to the Queenborough mayoral fund, which is shared out between local not-for-profit groups.
