Boxing legend Frank Bruno is reported to have bought a £54,000 caravan on a Sheppey holiday park.

The former heavyweight champion is said to have secured a two-berth static caravan at Palm Tree Holiday Park in Warden Road, Eastchurch.

Witnesses say he turned up at the Dickens Inn, Eastchurch, before Christmas in a black Range Rover with a woman passenger and asked for directions.

He told regulars he had bought a caravan there and had been after one for ages.

The park’s top-of-the-range ABI Ambleside Premier sells for £53,995, and has double glazing, central heating, a fridge freezer, patio doors, a dishwasher and a shower.

The Palms Sports Bar and club house has entertainment every night. The park, due to reopen in March, also serves pie and mash, fish and chips and Sunday roasts.

Bruno, 54, is one of Britain’s best-loved boxers. The 6ft 1in giant clinched the world title in 1995 from Oliver McCall but only kept it for six months after being beaten by Mike Tyson.

However, Bruno has remained a firm favourite with the British public, often appearing on TV and in pantomime.

He has three children by ex-wife Laura and a nine-year-old girl by his new partner Yvonne Clydesdale. He hit the headlines in 2003 when he had a breakdown and has since campaigned for more understanding of mental illness.

But he is perhaps best known for his catchphrase to boxing commentator Harry Carpenter: “Know what I mean, Harry?”
