Cancer scare was spur for Sky to act

A breast cancer scare left 20-year-old Sky Eatwell with a determination to do something about the disease that cast a shadow over her life.
Her life descended into a world of hospital appointments and scans after discovering a breast lump in February.
Sky said: “I have never been so scared in all my life when doctors told me they thought it was cancer.
"You hear stories about breast cancer and how it can affect you, but I never thought anything would happen to me.”
Thankfully Sky, a student on gap year from Canterbury Christ Church University, was soon given the all-clear after the lump was found to be a fibroadenoma , a non-cancerous tumour.
The experience left her shattered and meeting young people with cancer where she was treated at Medway hospital was a shock to her.
She said: “You don’t think of young people having cancer and when I was there I met a man in this 20s who was diagnosed with breast cancer.”
Now Sky, of Parsonage Chase, Minster, is to launch a calendar to sell in support of Cancer Research UK, Breast Cancer Care and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
She set up a Facebook page and was inundated with offers of help from student photographers, hairstylists and make-up artists as well as young people wanting to take part.
There are now more than 20 girls who will be photographed for the calendar and Sky says the shots will be themed as vintage-style pin-up girls.
One page is reserved for men (and Sky has 11 volunteers) in recognition that they are also affected by breast cancer.
Sky is appealing for a printer for the calendar and said: “I want to do all I can to raise awareness of breast cancer in young women and men and the support I’ve had so far is amazing.
“It would mean the world to me if someone could come forward and help with printing.”
