No arrests have been made following the theft of £500 worth of jewellery from an 85-year-old man.

Patrick Wilson had two necklaces and a bracelet taken from him by a female scam artist outside Holy Trinity Church, Sheerness, on August 15.

Police are still hoping to identify the suspected woman, who was of Indian appearance and wore a multicoloured sari, from CCTV footage.

A spokesman for Swale council, which owns the cameras, said: “The nearest camera was pointing to the street area beside the church towards the shops, not into the church grounds.”

CCTV operators were made aware of the incident via the Shopsafe radio system.

The spokesman added: “An area search was carried out using this camera and others in the area, images were relayed to the Police control, no-one was seen fitting the description given, although at the time we were given two conflicting descriptions; one, a lady was wearing a colourful sari, two, a lady was in a long floral dress.

“Images from the area are awaiting collection by the police.”
