A new low-price wholesaler is opening to support those struggling with the cost of living crisis.
The Kent Discount Depot will start serving customers on the same site as Hartley Halt Garden Centre, off Leysdown Road in Leysdown this week.
A spokesman for the business confirmed the new shop is opening its doors on Friday.
It will be next to the Hartley Halt Garden Centre which was owned by Dave Purssord, who served on Leysdown Parish Council, before he died suddenly in 2020.
The garden centre, which is known for its elaborate outdoor displays, is still owned by Dave's family and the Kent Discount Depot is renting part of the area from them.
Cllr Bill Tatton, who represents Sheppey East, explained: "Everyone knew that garden centre as Dave's Place.
"Since his death his family took over and cleared a lot of it out.
"However, I do believe they wanted to put in a retail area on the site which included somewhere for people to buy food.
"I say good luck to the new business opening there."
Kent Discount Depot's spokesman explained that their store is separate to the garden centre.
They said: "The depot is a wholesaler that will be open to the public only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
"However, that may change depending on our customer needs."
The depot is able to keep its prices low as it sells near to and end-date branded food and drink, including alcohol.
Customers will be able to get their hands on sauces, tinned food, chocolate, squash, energy drinks, pet food, cleaning and laundry products and lots of homeware items such as bedding, and kitchen utensils.
The spokesman added: "It’s aimed at the local community to help them with the cost of living because of the current economic climate."

The Kent Discount Depot also aims to cater for chalet owners, caravanners and holidaymakers on the Island.
Discounts for elderly people, emergency service staff and service personnel will also be available.
