Roles were reversed when a pupil turned head teacher – and he treated all his staff to a box of chocolates.
The newspaper club at Minster Primary School held a competition for pupils to win the chance to take over the hot seat for a day.
Members of the after-school group filled out forms outlining why they would be suitable for the top job.
The winning entry from Joshua Doherty read: “Although we have the best head teacher ever, Mrs Wheeler, I can be a good role model for other pupils.
"I have 100% attendance and always try my best. And I would give all staff a big box of chocolates to share in the staff room.”
On January 6, the Year 4 pupil joined Debbie Wheeler in her office for a briefing of the day’s duties which included welcoming the boiler engineer, sending emails to other primary schools, observing lessons and ensuring no one got lost during one of the tours.
His favourite part of the day was helping Mrs Wheeler show the parents of next year’s foundation children around the Brecon Chase site.
Joshua said: “Mrs Wheeler is busier than I realised, and I really enjoyed working with her.”
After the successful day with her new assistant, Mrs Wheeler said she believed that he would make an able head teacher in future and agreed that she had a lovely day with her shadow.
She added that the staff thoroughly enjoyed the chocolates.
