A barbecue and fun day at a community football club has boosted a charity pot for a poorly Island tot.

Ezmae Catley’s family attended the fundraiser at New Road FC’s home in New Road, Sheerness, on August 10.

They were presented with a cheque for £100 and a framed shirt.

The club approached her parents Claire Morrish and David Catley, after receiving a £400 donation from Linda Wooding, whose son Shaun is one of its coaches.

As Mrs Wooding had no logo to go on the shirts she had sponsored, she suggested they ask a charity.

Ezmae’s parents were contacted as Mr Catley’s 10-year-old son Taylor plays for the under-11s team.

The shirts for the second under-8s team now carry the phrase “Baby Ezmae pennies for princess pickles”.

Six months after Ezmae, now 18-months-old, was born she was diagnosed with epilepsy, brain damage and dystonia – a neurological disorder that causes frequent muscle contractions.

Her family has been raising money as she will need a range of equipment for the rest of her life, including a wheelchair that could cost up to £2,000.

Mum Claire thanked New Road FC and said they have been overwhelmed by people’s generosity.

Debbie Harrison, of New Road FC, added: “We would also like to thank everyone who was involved in the day and we managed to make about £400 profit which was fantastic.”
