It said: "As you know, we have put extensive measures in place to ensure our students and staff are as safe as possible as we have welcomed our young people back to the school.

"This is an isolated individual case in a year group bubble, so please don't be alarmed, but it is a reminder we all need to remain vigilant, both in school and the wider community."

The school reminded parents to make sure their children know they must wear a face mask when not in the classroom.

It continued: "The small number of children who have been in close contact with the individual who has tested positive for coronavirus have received a letter informing them that their child must stay at home for 14 days.

"The Academy remains open and your child should continue to attend as normal if they remain well."

It comes one day after 141 people from Rose Street Primary School were made to self isolate after two members of staff tested positive for the virus.

A spokesman for the academy said: "We have been advised by Public Health England of a confirmed case of COVID-19 within our Year 11 bubble.

"In line with advice from Public Health England, a number of our Year 11 students are isolating for two weeks and teachers will support them to continue their learning at home.

"Thanks to the extensive measures we have in place, including the bubble system, the academy remains safe to open for students in all other year groups.

"We are working closely with Public Health England and following their guidance to ensure that the academy is Covid secure for all our students and staff, and will keep parents regularly updated.
