Traffic was stopped on the A249 after a lorry broke down on the Sheppey Crossing.
Police were been called to the bridge after the lorry suffered a fuel leak.
The incident happened at about 10.50am after the vehicle was blocking he Sittingbourne-bound carriageway for some time.
The delays lead to tailbacks to the roundabout at Cowstead Corner.
James Walker, spokesman for Kent Police said: "The lorry was obstructing a live carriageway and is reported to have had a fuel leak. "
It is now understood the vehicle has been moved to a lay-by and traffic has started moving again.
