There has been a a slight drop in the percentage of pupils passing their A-level exams on the Island.

But there has been a rise in the number leaving with three A-levels or BTEC equivalents.

Of the 25 Year 13 pupils sitting A-levels at Oasis Academy Isle of Sheppey, 96% passed – down from 98% last year. It means the school is 2.1% below the national average pass rate of 98.1%.

A total of seven different subjects were taken with A to C grades achieved in 75% of English literature exams, 68% of maths and 60% in psychology.

The pass rate at AS level is up 5% from last year, with 79% the 19 Year 12 students sitting the exams achieving A to E grades.

The school recorded a 99% success in BTEC diplomas – 1% down from its perfect score last year.

A total of 59 students sat the exams with 12 different subjects covered.

This is the second batch of results since the academy was taken over by the charity Oasis Community Learning.

Young people made their way to the west site, in Marine Parade, Sheerness, this morning to discover their fates.

Associate principal John Cavadino said: “I would like to congratulate all our sixth-form

students on their outstanding achievements. They have worked hard and fully deserve their success.

“We are particularly pleased that so many more students are leaving with at least 3 A-level equivalents which will ensure that they are best prepared for further study and the workplace.”

Head of sixth form, Helen Curran, said: “I’m thrilled for our Year 13 students who have secured the grades they needed for university, apprenticeships and careers.

“We had record numbers applying for university this year, many of whom are the first in their families to go.

“We look forward to building on Year 12’s record breaking AS results over the next 12 months.”

Sittingbourne's five secondary schools have also released their results this morning.
