Sheerness dad battles the mud in 100km London to Brighton run

A dad has raised hundreds of pounds by taking on his biggest physical challenge.
Craig Burns, of Clyde Street, Sheerness, took part in the 100km London to Brighton fundraiser last month.
Participants chose how to complete it and Mr Burns, 38, opted to run an ultra-marathon.
The toughest challenge was the conditions as it was extremely muddy and difficult to run on. It took him 14 hours, 23 minutes and 11 seconds to complete – placing him 89th out of 1,600 people.
Mr Burns said: “The wetness of the ground and my running shoes meant that my feet were wet for the entire challenge.
“It was the single hardest but rewarding physical and mental challenge I have undertaken.”
So far he has raised more than £380 for the Alzheimer’s Society as his grandfather, former dock worker Patrick Burns, was diagnosed with the disease a few years ago.
He said: “It’s heartbreaking to see a loved one who knows they should remember who I am and the blank look on his face before I introduce myself.”
“The money will go to helping families come to terms with it and maybe finding a cure.”
