A driver has been caught on dashcam making an illegal turn onto the wrong side of an A249 slip road.
The black vehicle can be seen driving on the designated London-bound M2 slip from the A249 Maidstone-bound.
However, after seemingly realising that they took a wrong turn, the motorist is filmed driving off the A249 slip road and onto the Stockbury roundabout’s designated London-bound slip road instead to avoid joining the M2.
The manoeuvre, which was filmed at 1.25pm yesterday, meant the car was travelling on the wrong side of the road so it could rejoin the roundabout once more.
Currently, the M2 junction five London-bound exit slip at Stockbury is shut, meaning the A249 Maidstone-bound is closed from the Stockbury roundabout to Church Hill, with no access to the A249 from Oad Street or South Green Lane.
This may be the reason for the driver’s confusion and wrong turn but Zilvinas Gudel, who caught the incident on his dash cam, says there is no excuse as “there are enough signs” before the turnoff.
The 29-year-old, who lives near Sittingbourne High Street, said: “I drive this way every day, this doesn’t surprise me at all.
“I see similar driving often along the A249 and I’ve been hit on the back of my car by a van that was cutting in behind me to jump the queue not that long ago – fortunately it was just a scrape that got painted over.
“There are enough signs before it, but I guess people don’t pay attention.
“I’d say driving in general around here is very poor and there are accidents far too often.”
The self-employed model used to train at the Iron Works gym in Maidstone, however, due to the current A249 closure he moved his exercise regime to the Muscle Hut in Medway.
Zilvinas added: “I’m always driving there and back between 12 and 3pm, I specifically pick this time to avoid hours of driving.
“I work for myself so luckily I have the luxury of picking whatever time I want to leave my house.
“But even then I often don’t because the 25-minute drive shows up as 90 minutes sometimes.”
