A former place of worship, which closed its doors after 76 years due to a dwindling congregation, is to go under the hammer.

Minster Methodist Church, Wards Hill Road, Minster, which held its final service in October 2013, is to be put up for sale by Clive Emson over five days of auctions later this month.

The site, which was also home to other groups including Brownies, Scouts and a preschool, has been extended and could be converted or developed subject to planning permissions being obtained.

Auctioneer John Stockey, who features on BBC’s Homes Under the Hammer, said: “There is a real need for housing and that might be how this old church is used in future, as long as all consents are obtainable.

“Inside the church are the things one would expect; knave, chapel, vestry, but there is also an attached hall with the associated facilities.

“It stands on a corner plot and we anticipate interest from builders and developers.”

The freehold guide price for the church is £115-125,000.
