Man arrested in Sheerness after 'driver threatened with axe' in road rage incident

A man has been arrested after an axe was pulled out following a road rage incident.

Officers were called to Halfway Road in Sheerness at around 5.25am this morning after reports a motorist was threatened by the driver of another vehicle.

The victim told police a car had been travelling closely behind him before they overtook his vehicle and stopped in front of him.

The driver then allegedly got out of his car and made threats while holding an axe.

After the incident the suspect began to follow the victim again, before a call to 999 was made and the victim drove to a nearby police station.

Patrols were dispatched to search for the other vehicle which was found by an unmarked police car and stopped.

An axe and a baseball bat were were found and seized following a search.

A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of two counts of possessing an offensive weapon and a public order offence. He is currently in custody.
