A cycling cannabis dealer was stopped on his bike by police because he was sweating and looked nervous – and was found to be peddling weed to his clients, a court heard.

Richard Edwards, 43, was stopped in Sheerness in August and officers found cannabis bag deals and a small amount of cocaine in a bag he was carrying.

Edwards – formerly of Richmond Street, Sheerness, but now living in Dumergue Avenue, Queenborough – was arrested and told officers he was selling the drug to make some cash after losing his job.

He was charged with being in possession with intent to supply cannabis and possession of cocaine and admitted both offences when he appeared before magistrates in Medway on September 28.

James Nichols, prosecuting, told the court Edwards told officers the cocaine was for personal use and that he had a previous conviction for producing cannabis in 2016.

Paul Ruse, defending, told magistrates Edwards – a former window fitter – had lost his job because the company he'd been working for had lost a major contract and he'd been laid off.

Magistrates decided to adjourn sentencing and ordered an all options pre-sentencing report to be carried out on Edwards.

He will be sentenced at the same court on November 16.
