An annual Easter tradition had to be moved at the last minute over fears people would be hurt.

The Good Friday Churches Together event, usually held at Sheppey's Bunny Bank, had to be moved to the grounds of nearby Minster Abbey because the path up the hill was too slippery.

The Easter ceremony features three wooden crosses planted on top of the "green hill", as well as readings of Bible verses and hymns.

A post by the Sheerness Salvation Army yesterday morning announced the changes amid concerns of guests getting injured.

It read: "Yesterday's heavy rain has meant that the path up to Bunny Bank is very slippery.

"We don't want to risk anyone falling and hurting themselves, so we've decided to relocate our Good Friday Churches Together service to the grounds of Minster Abbey, where there is a beautiful view of Minster and the bridge waiting for you."

Last year marked the service's comeback after a two-year break.

It had to be abandoned because Covid restrictions stopped large outside gatherings.
