A national landmark provided the inspiration for a collaborative project by a Sheppey-based art group.

The adult education watercolour class, which meets in a mobile on Oasis Academy Isle of Sheppey grounds in Minster Road, Minster, produced a painting of Stonehenge.

Tutor Janet Darley enlarged a photograph of the ancient monument and divided it into squares which were then painted by her 10 students, including two who come from Sittingbourne, who then put it back together again.

Lisa Ward, of Seathorpe Avenue, Minster, who attends the classes, said: “The difficult part is matching up the colours, but we got it all to match and put it back together and made one big picture. Hopefully by doing this it might encourage more people to come forward.”

The group meets on Wednesday mornings.
