Police are taking action against 27 drivers and have warned others as part of a crackdown on road safety in Sheerness.
Officers from Swale’s Community Safety Unit carried out the checks between 11am and 3.30pm on Saturday February 11 in Marine Parade.
The operation was organised after a nearby resident raised concerns about motorists in the area flouting basic road safety rules, and led to police stopping 57 drivers.
Of those, 27 were issued with Traffic Offence Reports (TORs), meaning they will be reported and fined for the offences.
Nineteen of the 27 who received TORs were seen driving without wearing a seatbelt, while three were witnessed speeding.
Two drivers had window tints above the legal level, one driver had a dog which was not secured correctly and TORs were also issued for motorists who did not have an MOT or licence.
Officers also provided words of advice to 28 drivers for reasons including driving without properly securing a child, having an insecure load and vehicle defects.
Police also seized a car with illegally tinted windows.
Police Sergeant Ryan Chase, of Swale’s Community Safety Unit, said: "I hope this latest operation reassures residents in Swale that we do not just respond to reports but actively listen to concerns and take these seriously.
"During such a short space of time we stopped a lot of motorists who were committing various offences and these were dealt with appropriately.
"We will continue to carry out roadside checks at various times in different locations in order to ensure motorists are driving safely and in accordance with the law."
