The building firm which has taken on the work of repairing the Glass House in Sheerness has had to withdraw its services due to unpaid bills.

Fire ripped through the former pub in Marine Parade after an arson attack in June, last year, and last week we reported how police has shelved their investigation into the crime.

The families and people who lived there were made homeless due to the extent of the damage.

It is under the ownership of NatWest bank after it was repossessed – something which happened before the blaze.

Bexley-based building firm Gaysha Ltd was working to fit a temporary roof and make it structurally sound, but a spokesman has said for the time being its services have been withdrawn because there are outstanding bills to be settled.

NatWest said it was not in a position to comment at this stage.

A spokesman for Swale council said: “Building control has made sure that the property is no longer dangerous.

“We will continue to work with the owners of the site to assist where possible to help bring the building back into proper use.

“Renovation and rebuilding is a matter for the owner.”

Attempts to find out who owned the Glass House before it was repossessed have been unsuccessful.
