From back garden show to packed theatre venue

A performing arts group that started in a back garden of Sheerness house has given its first ever theatre show.
Royal Road Productions put on a musical called Unda da Sea in front of a packed audience at the Avenue Theatre, Sittingbourne.
The show was written, produced, directed, and choreographed by 20-year-old Liane Vinall.
Unda da Sea was a twist on Disney’s Little Mermaid with Liane’s alternative sense of humour influenced by books, television and her own imagination. It took only 10 days to put it all together.
The production company began when Liane was 11 when she performed Grease in her back garden in Royal Road, Sheerness.
Liane and her friends acted out the musical in front of their families as they wanted to raise money to save Sheerness swimming pool.
It was so well received the company has performed every year since.
The group moved to the Labour Hall in High Street, Sheerness, before transferring to the Avenue Theatre in Central Avenue, Sittingbourne, three years ago.
The cast of 42 were aged between 13 months and 31 years old and came from Sittingbourne, Sheppey and Maidstone and further afield.
Liane said the two performances on Saturday were successful with each show selling out all 88 seats.
So far, Unda da Sea has raised £159.60 but money is still coming in and Liane hopes to give £100 each to The Children’s Brain Trust and Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Liane said: “It was absolutely brilliant. At first we thought it was going to be a massive mistake but it turned out to be the best show that we have done.”
The show could be the first and last ever public performance by Royal Road Productions.
Liane is going into her final year of a drama course at Greenwich University before she jets off to America next year where she will perform and teach drama.
