16:00, 12 May 2017

Sheerness East Working Men’s Club at Halfway is staging a fundraiser on Sunday, May 28, in memory of a Sheppey sportsman.

The Jim Gray Memorial Day will feature a football and darts tournament followed by live music and an evening disco.

The day is in memory of the former Sheerness East football coach who died in 2014 from cancer, aged 52.

Proceeds will be donated to AMMF, a charity raising awareness of cholangiocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer of the bile duct.

Three previous fundraisers collected nearly £20,000.

Organiser John Munday said: “Jim was my best friend. This is a way of keeping his memory alive and making lots of money for a charity which is doing so much good work to research this rare disease.

“Jim loved his football and music which are the day’s main highlights. But we’ve plenty of other attractions.”

The day kicks off with a football tournament (entry £10) at 10am and features youth and veteran teams.

The action then moves inside for a pairs darts contest (entry £10 per pair).
