A community hall has reopened after a £30,000 transformation.

Friendship House, in Love Lane, Minster, has undergone several stages of refurbishment in the past 18 months.

The latest work, which cost £31,983, saw various changes including new lights, new plug sockets and rewiring of the electrical fittings.

New safety measures were installed such as emergency fire doors, a fire alarm system and the building was made watertight.

Facilities were also given a revamp as new wings were put on the stage, the curtain was replaced and new flooring put down.

Double glazing was installed and the site was generally redecorated.

Funding for the project was secured by Minster-in-Sheppey Friendship House Trust from the not-for-profit group Waste Recycling Environmental (WREN) and £3,500 from Kent County Council.

The Rotary Club of Minster-on-sea also donated money for new internal fire safety doors.

Previous work on the community building involved fitting a new central heating system and disabled toilets funded by a lottery grant.

It is hoped the refurbishment will encourage more clubs and societies to use it during the day as well.

Trust chairman Theresa Langworthy said: “I think the whole committee are pleased that the hall can be used to its full potential as part of the community, for the community.”
