A major road will be closed for an entire weekend to allow workers to remove a redundant level crossing.

The A249 Brielle Way on the Isle of Sheppey will shut from 8pm on Friday, March 11, until 6am on Monday, March 14, to allow the work to take place.

There will also be an overnight closure from 8pm on the Monday until 6am the next day.

The work will be carried out under a full carriageway closure of the A249 in both directions between the B2007 at the Whiteways roundabout and the A250 Bridge Road.

A notice of the works states: "Due to the nature of the works required, other traffic management arrangements would not be sufficient, as it would not leave enough of a working zone for our workforce."

A fully-signed diversion route will be in place using the A250 to re-join the A249 at Queenborough for southbound traffic, and vice versa for northbound traffic.

Residents and businesses along Brielle Way will be given access to their properties during the closure from either side of the works area. There is no through route for traffic.
