A man was left with serious facial injuries after being assaulted in a layby on the A249.
Police are appealing for information following the incident on Saturday.
It happened in the layby on the Sittingbourne-bound carriageway, about 200 metres from the Sheppey Crossing, between 4.15pm and 4.30pm.
A 42-year-old man from Sheppey was assaulted.
DC John Wood, from Sittingbourne Police Station, said: “This was an unprovoked attack which took place on a busy road in the middle of the afternoon.
“There would have been a lot of passing traffic and we feel sure someone must have witnessed the assault.
“We are particularly keen to speak to a man who gave first aid to the victim of the assault at the roadside.”
Anyone with information is asked to phone DC Wood at Sittingbourne Police Station on 01795 419161 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555111.
