12:37, 22 February 2017

A man accused of trying to kill his father in an alleged stabbing appeared at Maidstone Crown Court today.

Peter Simpson needed surgery at a London hospital after suffering 14 wounds in Jetty Road, Warden, on January 23.

Lee Simpson denied attempted murder, an alternative charge of wounding with intent, having a bladed article - a Stanley knife - and aggravated vehicle taking of a Ford Focus.

Prosecutor Donna East told Maidstone Crown Court the father, who is in his 50s and lives in Leysdown, suffered a punctured lung and fractured rib but was able to discharge himself from King's College Hospital the next day.

Danny Moore, defending, made a bail application for Simpson, 25, of Crow Lane, Romford, Essex.

Mr Moore said Simpson was employed and his mother's partner had offered a £5,000 surety.

But the prosecution objected to bail and Charles Macdonald QC refused the application and remanded Simpson in custody until his trial on July 17.
