A man helped stage a robbery in a bid to steal thousands of pounds from the shop he worked at, a court heard.

John Summers and accomplice Jonathan Shaw have pleaded guilty to conspiracy to steal the takings from Costcutter in Minster Road, Minster, on Sheppey.

The pair worked together to take more than £9,000 on June 26, 2017.

Summers, 69, of Harebell Close, Minster, was employed by the shop and had been tasked to take the shop's takings to the bank that morning.

Instead of depositing the money, co-conspirator, Shaw, 56, of The Broadway, Minster, met him on the way.

They then staged a robbery by stopping Summers’ vehicle and tying his hands before Shaw left with the money.

They appeared at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday for a pre-trial preparation hearing and admitted the offence.

Proceedings have been adjourned for sentencing at the same court on the week commencing August 5.

The offenders have been bailed until the date of sentence.
