Kind-hearted friends and neighbours are banding together in a bid to raise money for a family who lost their home in a devastating fire on Boxing Day.

Six fire engines were required to combat the blaze at the bungalow in Highfield Road in Halfway, Sheppey after it broke out at around 2.45pm.

The blaze started in the roof and quickly spread through the property, destroying everything inside and leaving the homeowners — who had been out visiting family — with ‘nothing but the clothes they were standing in’.

Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets, a main jet, a hydrant and thermal imaging camera to battle the flames.

Two cars were called to support the fire engines and roof tiles had to be removed to access affected areas. UK Power Networks were also called to the scene.

Multiple fundraising campaigns have since been launched to help them rebuild, with one from neighbour Neil Tomkins raising hundreds of pounds in just a few hours.

The campaign has a target of £5,000 and you can help by heading to justgiving.com/crowdfunding/neil-tomkins.

Another fundraising effort has been started by Carole Knight, aiming to provide the family with a further £1,000.

You can find that one at justgiving.com/crowdfunding/forMickandSonia.

Rosetta Lord is also hoping to raise £1,000 and has already secured 16 donations adding up to £220.
