This was the scene after a water main was damaged – causing a huge leak.

It happened near Neats Court, off Thomsett Way at Queenborough, at 4.30pm yesterday (Wednesday).

It is believed to have been damaged by a farmer.

Southern Water engineers were called to the scene and the main was shut off.

Repairs were still on-going this morning, but have now been completed.

A Southern Water spokesman said: "Supplies to customers were maintained and continued to be while the repair was made."

Leysdown resident Alex Goodspeed captured photos of the leak and joked: "My first thought when I saw it was ‘blimey - the Island’s sprung a leak!’"

Taxi driver Neil McLennan also stopped to take pictures. He said: "I wonder how much water has been lost and what the value would be!"
