A new artisan market is coming to the Island, with applications for stalls now open.

Last Thursday, Queenborough Harbour Trust announced it would be launching the weekly venture at the town’s quay, near South Street, at the end of the month.

No official date has been set yet, but the Trust says the market will take place on Saturdays from 9am to 3pm and aims to “showcase premium local food and drinks”.

A spokesman said: “We’re thrilled to announced the new market.

“As the market grows and develops, we hope to welcome more traders that can also offer British-made, premium and hand-crafted goods and art.”

Queenborough and Halfway councillor Cameron Beart (Con) added: “I welcome the proposals to trial a new artisan market on the town quay and have been supportive of them through the process.

“We have so many gifted local artists and entrepreneurs that could benefit from this and what better setting could it be held in?

“Queenborough has a long history of hosting markets, a right bestowed on the town by Edward III in the town’s Royal Charter and I believe this new venture will be supported by both locals and tourists alike.”

The market will have 10 pitches available for people to hire and the Trust is asking anyone interested to apply by completing an application by Sunday, May 9.

You can find the form at www.tinyurl.com/queenboroughmarket.

Traders will be shortlisted and interviewed and their products assessed for quality, price and saleability.
