Businesses and community groups discussed ways they could join forces with Oasis Academy Isle of Sheppey to run projects across the Island.

A meeting was held on Monday at the school’s Marine Parade, Sheerness, site for stakeholders in its Oasis Hub scheme. They had previously met in June.

The school is putting together a two-year action plan for ways it can help beyond the classroom through projects such as the redevelopment of Beachfields in Sheerness, food banks and a garden club.

It is also hoped links can be formed with local businesses to provide apprenticeship, work experience and employment opportunities for the students.

A spokesman for the academy said: “There were lots of further suggestions that came out of the meeting and the next stage is for us to link to the various independent stakeholders to develop an action plan and put some of the projects in place.

“It’s a way that we can link in with other groups and support them.”

She added that by forming partnerships with existing Island bodies such as Sheppey Matters, they can draw on each other’s expertise, such as in the school’s plans for a garden club.
