Part of the A249 has now re-opened after a diesel spillage caused chaos for commuters.
Police were called to the Maidstone-bound carriageway of the A249 between the Three Squirrels pub and Detling at around 5.40am today after a large amount of diesel spilled from a lorry.
The Maidstone-bound carriageway of the A249 was closed from Stockbury, and traffic also backed up on the Sittingbourne-bound carriageway.
At 1pm police said one lane had reopened. One lane is still closed but traffic is flowing freely.
Gritting lorries were sent to the scene to help clear up the spillage.
Motorists were avised to avoid the area and use the A229 or A2 instead.
