Plans to turn a house into a residential care home have been submitted to a council.

Insight Specialist Behavioural Service Ltd wants planning permission to convert the property, in Oak Lane, Minster, into a facility for five adults who require 24-hour support.

The Sittingbourne company’s application states that if given the green light there would be no structural alterations to the outside of the building.

Instead, the plans are for internal alterations which will include the addition of ensuite bathrooms and a utility room.

Lynda Cashford, a spokesperson for Insight, says in the planning documents: “The building was purchased as a residential home providing five bedrooms.

“There will no additional bedrooms and the property will be used as a residential care home for five people who require 24-hour care and support.”

Insight has confirmed the front of the building will not be altered however there are plans to remove the ivy hedge and install sliding gates.

Lynda added: “This will increase our parking spaces and provide extra security for the people living within the house.

“We are not extending and any alterations are minimal and are enhancing the usable space within the property.

“The house is going to be inhabited by five adults who are local people who have learning disabilities and require 24-hour support.”

Because of this, the use of the house remains residential as planning permission for change of use only applies for properties for more than six people.

Insight has developed six homes in both the Medway and Swale area since 1991.

The specialist behavioural service for adults with a learning disability and additional behaviours says it “challenges community services” and prioritises service users from within the local catchment for placement.

Its other homes are in Teynham, Oak Avenue in Minster, Walderslade, Sittingbourne and Newington.

The spokesperson confirmed the new residential care home will be regulated by Care Quality Commision.
