Man appears in court charged with escaping from HMP Standford Hill, Sheppey

A prisoner absconded from prison and was found three months later with a knife, a court has heard.
Michael Dunn appeared at Medway Magistrates' Court today via video link from HMP Elmley in Eastchurch on Sheppey.
The 47-year-old was charged with absconding from HMP Standford Hill, an open prison on Sheppey, on Monday, October 21, last year.
He was then found in a car in Lock Lane, near Maidstone, on Tuesday, January 21, where the prosecution said a 5in blade was also discovered.
Dunn pleaded guilty to possession of a knife in a public place.
He will be sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court, where he will also answer the charge of escape from lawful custody.
Dunn was remanded in custody to appear on Monday, August 3.
