A 24-hour police stand-off in a residential street has ended with the arrest of a man.

Officers were first sent to Vincent Gardens, Sheerness, just before 3.10pm yesterday (August 14).

They were called to a report of a disturbance where a man inside a house was reported to be causing damage.

Yesterday evening a witness live-streamed the incident on social media for five hours.

The man was filmed smashing windows and causing damage to the roof and brickwork.

The witness has been live streaming the incident again today.

It showed police and fire service vehicles there while negotiators talk with the man.

It is understood the man owns the property.

At 3.50pm there were claps and cheers of support for the man when he was led out by police.

He was driven away about five minutes later to more applause.

The road was reopened shortly afterwards.

This afternoon, police released a statement saying: “Kent Police was called at 3.07pm on Wednesday to a report of a disturbance in Vincent Gardens, Sheerness.

“Patrols attended the location where a man inside a house was reported to be causing damage.

“During the afternoon of Thursday a suspect was arrested on suspicion of causing a public nuisance and breaching an injunction.”

Louis Scudder, 52, of Vincent Gardens, has since been charged with burglary with intent to cause damage.

He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court and was released on bail.

The case was sent to Maidstone Crown Court and Scudder is due to appear there on Friday, September 13.
