A pair of cyclists from Minster are gearing up to pedal from Sittingbourne to Paris to raise money for a charity.

Scott Peters, of Fleetwood Close, and Darren Elliott will be part of a group of 100 riding about 280 miles for Demelza Hospice Care for Children in Bobbing on April 30, 2014.

Each participant must raise £1,750 and will need to travel between 60 to 80 miles a day for four days.

Clancy Docwra machine driver, Mr Elliott, 36, said: “At Easter time, a good friend of mine’s son died from an illness after being cared for by Demelza.

“That’s really where it started from. It has spurred me on to do something.”

Mr Peters, who works at Aesica, Queenborough, as a chemical production operator, said: “For me, I turned 40 about a year-and-a-half ago and I’ve never done anything like this.

“I quite regularly do 30, 40 mile rides purely for fitness so it’s a bit of a challenge really.”

The duo know each other through their sons, who play football together.
