Shoppers couldn’t believe their eyes when they stumbled over a dog and puppy made of sand on the pavement.

The sculpture in Sheerness High Street was created by Romanian Steffan Tabac, 23, today.

Steffan, from Ipswich, said: “It was my first time on Sheppey. I have been making sand sculptures for the past four years and travel all over the country. I have worked in Cambridge, Liverpool and Manchester. I go anywhere.”

He stayed with friends on Thursday night and then moved on to another town.

He said: “I always take my own sand. Most people like the sculptures and give me a donation.”

Sheerness Town Team chairman Brian Spoor said: “This was lovely to see. We would welcome more like this, especially buskers, to liven up the town.”
