Witness sought over serious 'sex attack' on woman in Sheerness alley

Police investigating reports of a serious sex assault in Sheerness are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

A 27-year-old woman has told officers she was attacked in an alleyway leading from Alexandra Road, James Street and Clyde Street in the town.

Officers have been unable to confirm rumours the victim's drink had been spiked or release details of any suspects, but said inquiries are ongoing.

It happened between midnight and 1am in the early hours on Saturday.

Officers from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate are appealing for witnesses.

A spokesman said: "Officers urge anybody who saw any person – man or woman – in this area between 12am and 2am to contact them."

Patrols were stepped up in the town after the reports to reassure the public.
