Royal Navy bomb disposal team carries out blast on Sheppey as explosives found by dog walker on Shellness beach

An explosive found on a Sheppey seafront has been destroyed in a controlled blast this morning.
The unknown device was found by a man walking his dog along Shellness beach at around 7pm yesterday.
He alerted Thames Coastguard before Andy Redman and Jill French from the Sheppey team were sent to investigate the item.
They sent a photo to Royal Navy bomb disposal team and marked its location.
The military experts left from their base in Portsmouth at 6.30am today and they were met by Sheppey Coastguard in Shellness.
They moved the explosive 500 yards away from the shoreline and set off a detonation at 10am.
