Sheppey gets seasonal this weekend with two Christmas light switch-ons.

Disney’s Frozen princesses Anna and Elsa, provided by Sweet Inspirations, will be at the clock tower on Saturday to turn on the Sheerness lights at 4pm.

The following day, Queenborough gets lit up from 4.30pm.

Sheerness will come alive on Saturday with a Christmas market in the High Street from 10pm to 5pm and the annual lantern parade, organised by Big Fish Arts, at 4pm.

More than 200 adults and children have been making paper lights for the procession which will be from Beachfields to the clock tower.

As a special treat, members and friends of the Rotary Club of Minster will be dressing up as Father Christmas for Sheppey’s first Santa Run at 3pm, again from Beachfields to the clock tower.

Because it is also Small Business Saturday, Swale council is waiving all charges for the town’s car parks.

Selected traders are offering special money-saving vouchers in this week’s Sheerness Times Guardian in association with the Sheerness Town Team; all coupons redeemable on Saturday.

The High Street and Broadway will be closed to traffic from 7am to 6pm. The town’s regular Saturday market along with others will move into the High Street and free up spaces in the Rose Street car park.

Entertainment from the Sheppey FM Roadshow starts at 10am and will include street entertainers and buskers. Father Christmas will be in his log cabin grotto behind the Rose Street Cottage of Curiosities all day.

Tesco is also holding its fun day for Diabetes UK and British Heart Foundation from 9am with stalls, music from the BRFM Roadshow, displays from the HKSD dancers and a special appearance from reindeer Sven and Prancer.

Queenborough’s celebrations start at 4.30pm on Sunday, with a parade through the town from King George playing fields, Castlemere Avenue and Rushenden Clubhouse (corner of Manor Road), Rushenden Road to Park Road.

The two parts of the parade will combine at the junction of Main Road, Rushenden Road and Railway Terrace and travel through Queenborough High Street to Queenborough Park where a carol service will be held followed by a fireworks display from nearby Crundells Wharf.
