Shop worker hurt in robbery at Queenborough Co-op store

Police have bailed three people after a shop manager was injured when she opened up Tuesday morning.

The Co-op in Main Road, Queenborough, was broken into in the early hours.

A 31-year-old man from Sheppey was arrested on suspicion of robbery at 11pm that day in the Warden Bay area.

Earlier a 29-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man, also from Sheppey, were stopped and also arrested on suspicion of robbery.

They were released on bail until Tuesday, October 25.

Their car was pulled over in Castle Road, Sittingbourne. Money was found in the vehicle.

The 31-year-old man was released on bail until, Friday, October 21.

It's reported the manager was confronted with a raider as she arrived at work, and tried to chase them out.

During the incident the staff member suffered an injury, and had to be treated by paramedics.

One source reported seeing two police cars and an ambulance outside the convenience store at around 6.45am. A police cordon was put in place.

Edward Leach, who lives in nearby Gordon Avenue, said: “I went up there this morning to get a paper and they just said it was closed and it won’t be open.

“I go up there every day, sometimes two or three times a day.

“I only saw the ambulance.”

A police spokesman said: “Police were called at 5.49am on Tuesday, September 13, to a report of a robbery at a shop in Main Road, Queenborough.”

A spokesman for the ambulance service said they arrived at the scene just after 6am.

He said: "We attended reports a woman had hit her head.

"She was able to be discharged at the scene, having been checked over."

An official from the national food retailer confirmed the incident had happened and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
