A teenager has landed her dream role in a girl band.

Alex Nicole-Jamieson has joined Sweetchix, an Essex five-piece and semi-finalists in last year’s Britain’s Got Talent series.

To get the job, the 16-year-old performing arts student had to pass a nerve-racking audition.

After making her debut with the band at a festival in Basildon at the weekend, the Minster resident is preparing for a hectic autumn schedule which sees Sweetchix fully booked until Christmas.

Former Sittingbourne Community College pupil Alex, of Buckthorne Road, Minster, said: “I’ve always wanted to be in a girl band.

“When I met the other group members at the audition I knew they were the nicest girls to be around.

“At the moment we’re concentrating on doing a few gigs to get our name out there. Our first performance together went really well – I didn’t make any mistakes.”

Alex is one of the group’s two new faces. Her opportunity came when the original members left to join stage schools.

As a fan of girl bands such as Little Mix and the Spice Girls, Alex hopes fans will one day hold Sweetchix in similar esteem.

Her mum, Nicola, is convinced her daughter has the all-round attributes to inspire youngsters aiming to follow her performing path.

She said: “Alex has been to loads of auditions. “She’s not out partying all the time, she’s practising.

“She’s always being told by people how amazing she is. Her voice is really good.

“Her dad, Eddie, has played a big part in her success, chauffeuring her everywhere, but she’s had good support from the whole family.”

Alex will combine Sweetchix duties with a three-year course at the Bromley-based D&B Academy of Performing Arts which starts in September.

Of the upcoming dates, the band have been invited to switch-on Basildon’s Christmas lights.

Her mum thinks 2016 could be a thrilling year for the girls, as they plan to write their own songs and possibly have another crack at TV stardom.

“Who knows? They could put themselves through to The X Factor,” she said.
