18:00, 20 November 2017

A 16-year-old from Minster must attend court following a suspected hate crime in May.

He has been ordered to attend Chatham Magistrates' Court on December 19 with a 15-year-old from Canning Town.

This relates to an incident on Minster beach six months ago where a Jewish family were attacked by a gang of youths on a beach.

The parents and their five children, aged between eight and 15, are reported to have been subject to racist abuse and had stones thrown at them.

It was reported the family cut their holiday short and returned to London following the events on May 28.

The police were criticised at the time for not attending the incident despite calls from the victims.

Kent Police responded by saying the informant had left the scene and officers deemed there was no further risk by the time the call was made and so did not attend.
