Sheppey singer Alex-Nicole Jamieson who went to Sittingbourne school bids for stardom this weekend

Sheppey singer Alex-Nicole Jamieson is taking part in the finals of the national TeenStar competition this weekend and wants your votes.

You can support the 18-year-old from Thistle Hill, Minster, by texting Teen65 to the number 84222. Texts cost £1.

Alex-Nicole had a two-year stint with Britain’s Got Talent five-girl band SweetChix before going solo. She has recently taken part in auditions for the ITV show The Voice at its studios on the Southbank.

She said: “The auditions were a bit nerve-racking but it was an amazing experience.”

Her mum Nicola said: “Alex has been singing since she could talk, starting with nursery rhymes and then songs from Disney movies. She used to sit on the sofa and get her Gran to introduce her as Christina Aguilera.”

Dad Eddie, who runs his own damp-proofing business, usually acts as chauffeur.

The former pupil at Sittingbourne Community College now goes to the D&B Academy of Performing Arts in Bromley which boats Marvin Humes of pop group JLS and X Factor winner Matt Terry among its past students.

She is one of 20 singers to reach the grand finals of the Teen Star competition on Saturday at St Albans. She performed on Island radio station Sheppey FM on Friday and has supported fund-raisers for the Harmony Therapy Trust.

Alex-Nicole, who records at Sittingbourne’s Big Jam Studios, added: “I probably won’t select my song until on the night. I normally go for big ballads like Christina Aguilera or Whitney Houston but I may pick something more upbeat for the final.”
