A young performer has had his biggest appearance to date – as the star of a music video for a dance song by a Radio 1 DJ.

Toby Turpin, 13, of Scarborough Drive, Minster, appears in Vargo, a track released last week by Danny Howard and the Futuristic Polar Bears.

He plays the main character in the video – which features a school boy who turns up for lessons and is then filmed dancing around a classroom and through corridors.

He got the role after applying for it and winning an audition. The filming was in Chelmsford in Essex about a month ago but his family had to keep tight-lipped about the former Fulston Manor School pupil’s involvement in it until it was released.

Toby’s career has taken off over the last few years – with him getting all sorts of different roles including performing at Shakespeare’s Globe theatre in London, helping break a world record as part of the longest line of Irish dancers and starring in a National Youth Music Theatre production of The Other School in the West End.

The teenager, who goes to the Italia Conti Associate School in Tunbridge Wells, was also presented with a cup for musical theatre by EastEnders’ star Shane Richie last year.

His mum Teresa said: “I am so proud of Toby. I think he’s amazing in this video and it’s had an amazing response.

“I’ve had a message from Danny Howard saying how happy he is with the video and how awesome he thought Toby was.”
