Sheerness to Sittingbourne train customers receive apology from Southeastern over cancelled services

12:01, 26 January 2014

Southeastern has apologised after a spate of cancelled services to and from the Island.

Trains have not been able to run a number of times in the last few weeks due to staff being unavailable.

The most recent one to be affected was the 10.19am from Sheerness to Sittingbourne last Friday.

A spokesman for Southeastern said most of the time if there are problems with trains,
it is because of issues with infrastructure such as signalling or power supply and more recently it has been due to weather conditions.

These are all down to Network Rail, but if there is a broken down train or problem with staffing, it is a Southeastern issue.

The spokesman said any staff who do not turn up without warning are subject to the company’s internal disciplinary procedures.

He said: “We are sorry to all customers whose trains are delayed and cancelled.”

“If the delay to their journeys is more than 30 minutes, then compensation is due.”
