Video report: Grieving
son wishes he could have helped his dad die
Devastated son Philip Charles has started a campaign to legalise
assisted suicide after suffering the horrors of watching his
father's long-term decline and death.
Care home worker Mr Charles says he wishes he and his family had
the chance to help dad Roy die rather than watch him suffer they
way he did.
Roy died in October after a 19-month battle with kidney cancer
and Philip says he was in so much pain, he wanted help to die
rather than continue suffering.
Now 28-year-old Philip, of Wellesley Road, Sheerness has started
a petition and is encouraging people to sign in an effort to get
assisted suicide legalised in Britain.
